He had a girlfriend who he wanted to marry, but they broke up and then he asked Rosalynn, who was 17, to go out with him.
Jimmy kissed her on their first date when he was 20 and said to his mom that he loved her and wanted to marry her. But Rosalynn said no when he asked her to marry him; she had made a promise to her father that she would finish college first. Jimmy did not give up on her, and they got married in July of 1946 after Rosalynn got her degree from Georgia Southwestern College.
